The Enduring Practice

2019

This film is about a dancer imagining herself as a prima ballerina (herself as a younger person), practicing in the dance studio.

I created every part of the stop motion that you see here – the two dolls, including the armatures, the wooden floor (from cut and varnished cardboard), the mirror (tinfoil), and the set. The fabrication was the most time consuming part of this animation!

I created this film at MassArt in 2019 while taking a stop motion course.

The dolls are able to walk, dance, stand, and fall, because they have screws embedded in their feet that screw into the set below. If you look closely, you can see the holes where the dolls have walked on the floor.
